Thank you!
Thanks for all the very interesting emails I received today. I will get to each and every email within the next 24 hours. I apologize for the delay.
Keep reading the blog. I will update it constantly with new information.
I saw The View interview and was completely disgusted by Feldman's lies. As someone who is converting to Judaism, having never had anyone push their views on me, I know how exaggerated her claims are. To say Orthodox Jews educated through private Jewish education have a fourth grade reading level is preposterous. These are some of the most intelligent people in the world who dedicate their lives to the study of meaningful and challenging texts. Jewish women are also encouraged to be well read and educated not just to "cook" and "make a good home". It's upsetting, not only that she would leave the community, but then turn around and fabricate stories. No, being Orthodox isn't for everyone. But we need these people with such strong emunah to motivate those who are less observant, to study, to pray, and to carry on the traditions.
As someone who is converting to judaism, I'm sorry, but you are not getting a complete picture of what goes on in the jewish community, and you will never know what it's like to grow up jewish, let alone to grow up the very isolated satmer community that Deborah comes from. Those kind of Jews talk to insiders only, and even after you convert you'll always be an outsider. What's sad is (if you are converting to orthodox judaism) how much is being hidden from you...and you thinking you know what's really behind the curtain. A whole world of crazyness awaits, good look with that.
Also of course jews never push their views on non jews, they discourage people from converting.
